Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (July 9, 2018) – Dominic Scelzi posted a pair of top-five finishes last Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway during the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown.

Scelzi did double duty on Saturday during the final night of a doubleheader at the oval, where the action began on Friday with a 21st-place qualifying result, a sixth-place heat race run and a 21st-place A Main showing.

“On Friday we drew a big number for qualifying and going out late was not what we wanted,” he said. “We didn’t time in very good. We made it into the A Main through our heat, but we weren’t all that great in the heat or in the main event. However, we made a 180 turn on Saturday. We timed really good and were phenomenal in the heat race. It was a really good battle and the car was awesome.”

Scelzi guided his family owned, Roth Motorsports supported team to the sixth quickest qualifying result before a third-place finish in a heat race lined him up ninth for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series A Main.

“We kept getting better the whole feature,” he said. “I ran the bottom for quite a bit. I ran the middle a little and ran the cushion at the end. I think we had equal speed wherever we went. Sheldon (Haudenschild) and I went at each other for 10 or more laps. Racing with (David) Gravel and even with Donny (Schatz) for a couple of laps was a lot of fun.”

Scelzi battled for a top five throughout the 41-lap main event before closing with a fifth-place finish, which was his second top five of the season in World of Outlaws competition.

Scelzi also competed in the Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series portion of the event, racing a 360ci winged sprint car for Pat Donnohue with a No. 41 in tribute to Jason Johnson.

“It was an honor to run the No. 41 in remembrance of Jason Johnson and it was cool that we were able to donate all of our winnings of $700 to the Johnson Family,” Scelzi said. “I really wanted to win, but we had a lot of fun and it was special to honor Jason.”

Scelzi maneuvered from fourth to second place in a heat race before a fourth-place finish in the dash lined him up on the outside of the second row for the main event.

“We ran in fourth for about 10 laps and I was running the bottom,” he said. “We had a yellow and I got to second on a restart. I was right there on the leader when the yellow came out again. We went into turn one on the restart and the leader slowed way down. I had to cut my momentum, which allowed the guy in third to get around the both of us so we finished third.”

The third-place result was Scelzi’s sixth podium of the season.

Scelzi is slated to compete four times in Ohio this week beginning on Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica for the Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic before races Thursday through Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg for the 35th annual Kings Royal.
