Korves and Cummins WIN Modified
The action continued at Belle Clair Speedway on Friday night with a regular program. There were cars in the pits and fans in the stand ready for the action. In the UMP Modified division, there were 16 car ready to race. Heat race winners were Brent Korves and Bobby Bittle. The dash went to Dennis Ponder.
The 20 lap feature started with Ponder and Korves on the front row. With the dropping of the green flag, Korves would jump to the lead on the top side. Ponder, Bittle, David Seger and Tyler Diebert would give chase. This race was very entertaining as Korves and Ponder went at it for the win on the top of the top. Korves held the lead with Ponder right on his bumper lap after top until lap 15.
With five laps to go, Ponder tried to make his move in turn four, but that did not work out too well and he tried a slide job and got into the outside wall hard and was done for the night. Then it was Bittle’s turn to try Korves for the win. Korves would go on and win his first feature of the year at Belle Clair Speedway. Bittle, Chris Smith, Seger and Tyler Diebert would complete the top five.
In the B Modified class, there were 13 cars competing. Heat race winners were Mike Jones and T.J. Frazier. The 15 lap feature started with Jimmy Cummins and Mark Clary on the front row. With the beginning of the race, Cummins would jump to the front with Clary, Jones Tim Hancock and Frazier giving chase. Cummins would take the first win in this class with a big mess in turn four on the final lap. Cummins would be followed by Jones, Hancock, Page and T.J Eilers.
The Mini Sprints would run a green to checkers race in under four minutes.
