Ross Bailes visits Carolina Clash victory lane at Gaffney
Kicking off a four-race swing, Ross Bailes traveled to Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.) on Thursday afternoon for the rescheduled Rock Gault Memorial from March 27. Drawing 33 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries, Ross’ fifth-place finish in his heat race relegated him into the B-Main. Holding off Nick Hoffman to pick up the 10-lap victory, Bailes locked into the 17th-starting positon for the $40,000-to-win A-Main. For the Charlie Mize Memorial on Friday at Lavonia Speedway (Lavonia, Ga.), Bailes recorded a fifth-place finish in his heat, which positioned him 15th on the starting grid for the feature. With $10,000 on the line, Ross gained eight spots to finish seventh.
The following night at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) for the Scorcher 100, Ross topped the 27-car field in time trials before picking up a 10-lap heat race win. With the redraw placing him sixth on the starting grid for the $10,000-to-win A-Main, Bailes lost six spots in the 60-lap affair to cross the line in 12th.
On Sunday afternoon, Bailes returned to Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.) for the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series-sanctioned Hall of Fame 50. With his fastest qualifying lap in time trials placing him on the pole for the feature, Bailes led flag-to-flag in the 40-lapper to register his 21st series victory, which came over Anthony Sanders, Brett Hamm, Jeff Smith, and Daulton Wilson. His eighth win of 2021 was worth $7,500.
