UCRA - United Championship Racing Alliance
Sam Seawright Inherits UCRA Triumph at Fort Payne
Fort Payne, AL (8/24/2019) --- Despite threatening sky's all day and all night Saturday, fans of Fort Payne (AL) Motor Speedway were treated to a good ole fashion "JR Slobberknocker" in the United Championship Racing Alliance - UCRA Main Event as hometown 15yo., Sam Seawright parked his #16 "Agcor Steel, Farm System Inc--, J&R Lumber, JSR Racing, The Pickin Post, Finish Line Graphics, Oliver Race Engines" sponsored racecer in Victory Lane, winning the night's $2,500 prize.
Mighty Auto Parts/Red Line Oil Products were on-hand at FPMS Saturday and fans were greeted with door-prizes prior to the nights action. Seawright's new "Black Diamond" Ronnie Stuckey Enterprises, was ready for the "Dynamite Kid" to debut, but it was the reigning/defending UCRA Champion Jimmy Elliott of Cleveland, Tennessee proved to be the man to beat. This years, "the Mohawk Warrior" racer has decided to only come to certain series events and racing locally at FPMS and his dominance is starting to show through.
Starting on the pole after setting Fast Time, turning a 14:501 second lap, Elliott seemed on cruise control holding back outside pole-sitter, 18yo., J.T. Seawright and Ethan Hunter. The first of many cautions opened up on lap 15 as "Hot" Rod Carroll was just too hot and began fighting his overheating woes. The restart shown J.T's downfall as the 2019 UCRA "Mayhem 40" winner spun in-front of lil' brother and the rest of the field in turn two. This placed brother Sam in position behind Elliott, but all he could do was track the spoiler on the leader as Elliott seemed too powerful.
Lap 32, all hell broke loose as multiple instances began plaguing the race. Michael Courtney and current National Championship Points leader Jesse Lowe careened off into turn one and met first hand Marvin Ford's new concrete retaining wall on the outside of the clay surface. The crash collected former UCRA winner Kyle May, but both Courtney and Lowe (3rd and 4th respectfully) were able to continue in the rear.
Multiple cars began falling off to the infield hot-pit, including leader Elliott, which would shuffle the entire field quietly putting Seawright and youngster Cody Courtney (both high school teenagers) at the top of the leader board. Elliott's demise was a right rear tire. In the last 8 laps, Lowe, Chip Brindle and Elliott would race back into the Top 5 salvaging a "rockus" UCRA feature. Booger Brooks whom took the checkers directly behind winner Seawright was later DQ'd on a fuel violation, the third in as many weeks. Seawright's fuel was deemed legal in a similar post-race inspection.
