Bobby Layne Banks Feature Win in POWRi MLS at I-35 Speedway

Belleville, IL. (8/30/2021) After suffering a rain-out in the previous week's event, the Lucas Oil POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprints would see a scheduling change alter their racing destinations over the weekend. As a cancelation at the originally slatted Lake Ozark Speedway would have drivers traveling back to their familiar home-turf of I-35 Speedway with Bobby Layne racing his way to victory lane for the fourth time this season while taking over the series points battle in the process.

Heat racing action would find the fast, up-and-coming, Trice Roden fly to the early on-track advantage by picking up the victory with a redraw for the feature putting Mark Billings and Tyler Johnson in the front starting row. Green-flag feature racing would witness an intense battle for positions through the field as the POWRi MLS drivers tackled the tricky I-35 Speedway.

Racing in honor is his beloved wife Carla Layne, the winningest driver in POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprints would add another notch to the win column in his illustrious career as Bobby Layne would drive through the field from starting seventh. Hard-charging his way to the front of the field Bobby Layne would not be denied as he continuously spoiled off the racing battles of Chase Fischer who would finish second.

From gaining the heat-race victory, rookie contender Trice Roden continues to improve and impress with consistent runs at the front of the field, placing third. One-time leader Tyler Johnson would fade in the later stages of the feature event to place fourth with Jeff Bard rounding out the Lucas Oil POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprints top-five finishers at I-35 Speedway. Lucas Oil POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprints would like to send our most sincere condolences to both Jeff Bard and Bobby Layne, our hearts are with the entire family on the loss of Carla Layne.
