Josh Schneiderman – Double Duty at Jackson!
Josh Schneiderman and the Deuce Motorsports #49 team spent the Labor Day weekend at the Jackson Nationals in Minnesota. The West Burlington, Iowa driver tackled double duty in both the 410 and 360 sprint cars. With the exception of an accident on Friday night with the 410, Josh qualified for all features. This Saturday, he plans on competing with the MOWA series at the Tom Knowles Memorial on the high banks of the Spoon River Speedway near Canton, Illinois. It will be his first 410 experience at the “Spoon”.
With 32 cars in the FVP National Sprint League field both nights at Jackson, Josh qualified 13th quick on Friday and 12th quick Saturday. “Overall, we were pretty happy with our qualifying,” he says. “We went out early both nights. I think Friday being early hurt us a little. On Saturday, I think it helped us. We had a new motor that we were trying to feel out a little bit.”
His mishap would come while running second in the B on Friday night. The right side panel of the top wing gave way, sending Josh upside down. “It’s kind of been the story of our season,” he says. “We’ve been in the wrong place at the wrong time several times. We were kind of cruising along. We were in a transfer spot, and we were going to get our time spot back. When you go into the corner wide open and your wing folds over like that, you hold on and hope for the best.”
The crew went to work getting the car ready for Saturday’s finale. “We took out all the radius rods and bent the driveline,” says Josh. “Obviously, we needed another top wing. We were able to kind of patch it back together on Saturday night.”
Josh would earn the seventh most points of Saturday’s feature non-qualifiers and finished eighth in the B. “I kind of messed up at the start of the heat and let a couple cars by, but we were o.k.,” he says. “We put ourselves in position in the B. We were wanting to be in the top six or eight in that group and we were able to do that. We may have had a fifth place car, but I was more worried about finishing. We had a pretty decent racecar. We pulled off early in the feature. I had used up all of our tires, and the track was abrasive. We saved it for another day.”
He won his heat race Friday in the 360, and finished 14th in the feature. “Car-wise, we were really nice with the 360,” says Josh. “Unfortunately, we’re running 2005 technology. We don’t have the motor for that big track, but we knew we had enough to make the show both nights, and we did.”
Josh had a tough ending with the 360 on Saturday as well. “We were actually moving through the field nice on Saturday until we blew a tire,” he says. “It took the top wing, radius rod, birdcage and header with it. That’s how it goes sometimes.”
