Dover Caps RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Nationals with Fifth-Place Finish

Inside Line Promotions – EAGLE, Neb. (Sept. 10, 2015) – Jack Dover did a lot of passing last weekend during the RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Nationals.

Dover scored a runner-up result during a preliminary night, a fourth-place finish in the Race of Champions and he ended fifth out of more than 100 competitors during the finale of the marquee event at Eagle Raceway.

“It was really successful,” he said. “Being in a car I’ve never been in and being a bit down on horsepower and running that well, that says how well the car was and how good we got it rolling. I want to thank Chris Roseland for the opportunity and I’m glad we could put together great results.”

The weekend began on Friday at the high-banked track, where Dover maneuvered from eighth to second place in a heat race to lock himself into the main event. That lined him up on the inside of the seventh row for the feature, which locked the top nine finishers into Sunday’s main event.

“The car is new and has only been out four times this year,” he said. “Hopping in it the first time and running from eighth to second in the heat was pretty good. In the feature we were running seventh or eighth when the injection broke on the motor about halfway so that put us out of the race.”

The mechanical problem ended Dover’s night early with a 24th-place result.

However, he returned to Eagle Raceway on Saturday and continued to march forward. Dover powered from fifth to win a heat race, which locked him into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 9 during the random draw to start the main event on the inside of the fifth row.

“We were pretty good in the heat so we didn’t change much for the feature,” he said. “We were up to sixth or seventh and a yellow came out. On the restart a car in front of me went to the top and I passed him before the cone so they put me all the way at the back, which was 21st. I was mad at myself. I just drove my rear off and I went where I had to the rest of the race.”

Dover rebounded from the miscue to charge from the back to a runner-up finish, which locked him into Sunday’s main event as the 11th starter.

Saturday night ended with the Race of Champions for Dover, who had advanced from ninth to third place during a qualifier the previous night.

“We pretty much left the same setup as Saturday’s feature,” he said. “We had a good run to finish fourth. I think fourth was the best we could get. A lot of those guys who ran in front of us have $20,000 motors.”

Dover ended with his second top five of the night and his 22nd of the season.

Sunday’s feature was postponed – along with Dover’s plan to compete with the Carpetland Nebraska 360 Sprints at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. – because of weather.

“We were able to finish the event on Monday afternoon,” he said. “We got up to seventh and a yellow came out. On that yellow we were lined up 15th, which there were lapped cars in front of us. I had to make up a lot of ground. It took us a while to get past some cars, but we came on strong at the end. If we had about two more laps we could have ran second. The leader was checked out, but second through fifth were bunched together.”

Dover ended the weekend with a fifth-place result.

He is slated to compete this Friday at Eagle Raceway for the Nebraska Cup with the FVP National Sprint League and on Saturday at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., with the Carpetland Nebraska 360 Sprints.
