Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Sept. 8, 2015) – Big Game Motorsports and driver Danny Lasoski are one step closer to clinching the inaugural FVP National Sprint League championship.
The Muddy sponsored team owns a 997-point advantage with four races remaining thanks to a trio of top 10s last weekend. Lasoski has now earned 23 top-10 finishes in the 24 series features.
“It was all top 10s last weekend, but we’re definitely a better team than that,” he said. “We strive to win every race.”
The weekend began on Friday at Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minn., for the first night of the 37th annual Jackson Nationals doubleheader. Lasoski qualified eighth quickest and he maneuvered from fifth to second place in a heat race. That earned him a spot in the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 5 to start the main event on the inside of the third row.
“When we rolled in there it was to win the race, but we knew it was all about points,” he said. “We had our work cut out for Saturday after Friday’s performance. We had to pass some cars and make things happen.”
Lasoski, who maintained a top five throughout Friday’s feature before finishing fourth, ranked fifth in overall points following Night 1. That locked the Muddy backed team into Saturday’s $25,000-to-win main event.
“We battled to put ourselves in position to win,” he said.
Lasoski qualified fifth quickest and again powered from fifth to second place in a heat race. That moved him up to second in overall points and garnered the outside front row starting position for the main event. Lasoski also had a $25,000 bonus on the line since he picked up qualifying wins at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, and at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D, earlier this season.
“We had a shot at earning $50,000 and we came up short,” he said. “Whoever got the lead on the start, the percentage was high you’d win. The race track started laying rubber so whoever was leading the first lap could set the pace. We had three different starts on the feature. One went our way and two didn’t. Then I cost the team two spots by making a driver error. I’ll take the blame for that. We got one of them back at the checkered flag.”
Lasoski ended with a third-place result, which marked his 38th top five of the season.
The weekend concluded on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway, where the Muddy sponsored team set quick time during qualifying before advancing from sixth to fourth place in a heat race. Lasoski pulled the No. 4 during the feature redraw to start the main event on the outside of the second row.
“We started out stellar,” he said. “We had a great car and then I don’t know what happened in the A Main. We just missed it. We weren’t where we needed to be. You can’t dwell on it. You dissect it in your mind and then go onto the next race.”
Lasoski competed for a top five throughout most of the race before posting a seventh-place result.
Big Game Motorsports returns to FVP National Sprint League competition this Friday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., for the Nebraska Cup and Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., for the Jerry Richert Memorial.
