Opening Night For The ASCS Lone Star Region
The opening night for the Lone Star Region began tonight mixed with the ASCS National Tour at Lonestar Speedway in Kilgore. This was Brian's first trip the wicked fast 1/2 mile speedway and Wayne Johnson was setting the car up to help us get going forward. Wayne won the first race at Lonestar in 1993 and again in 2005, so the experience he brought to the track was very handy.
Brian drew a terrible pill for the heat and started 9th, but quickly jumped a couple of spots with the HnH Racing Engines 360 haulin him around the track. Brian slipped up to lose 1 position and finished 8th, but he didn't let the super fast track intimidate him. Brian got out of the car and saying "that is a ridiculously fast track!!"
Brian lined up in 16th in the 1st B, which looked like a stacked A Main at any other track with National Tour racers. The track conditions changed very quickly as the tacky dirt moved right against the wall. Brian's car got looser and looser throughout the race which kept him from going as far forward as he wanted, but he still managed a 13th finishing position.
"All in all it was a great night with the experience that was gained and the lessons learned from Wayne Johnson," Brian said. "I can't believe Wayne doesn't have a ride given his record not only here, but really any track in the country. I'm really fortunate to have him as a friend and tonight having him wrench on my car!!"
Our next race is at Heart of Texas in Waco on Friday night and then to Cowtown on Saturday night.
