Hall of Fame Classic this Weekend at CSP

The USAC/CRA Sprint Cars take center stage at Canyon Speedway Park this weekend as the 1/3-mile clay oval hosts the 15th Annual Sands Chevrolet USAC Hall of Fame Classic.

Following an open practice session on Thursday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., two full nights of action will follow on Friday and Saturday with the green flag flying at 7:00 p.m. on both nights.

While the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars headline the esteemed events, the Arizona Differentia Pure Stocks, Micro Sprints and Vintage Cars will be in action as well.

The event marks the only Canyon Speedway Park outing of the year for the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars that feature a tight battle for the championship between Mike Spencer and Damion Gardner. Spencer, who holds a 40-point advantage, is gunning for a sixth series championship while Gardner is trying to make it three in a row.

Richard Vander Weerd, Austin Williams and Jake Swanson round out the current top five in USAC/CRA Sprint Car points with the rest of the top ten including Brody Roa, Matt Mitchell, Cody Williams, Logan Williams and Ryan Bernal.

The USAC/CRA Sprint Cars last stand-alone visit to Canyon Speedway Park was topped by Damion Gardner at the 2014 “Copper on Dirt”.

Jerry McClung, Grand Marshal for the event, will be among several Arizona racing legends scheduled to sign autographs as the Arizona Motorsports Hall of Fame inducts a handful of new members.

After winning the most recent pair of feature events to run his season total to ten wins, Matt Martinez leads the Arizona Differential Pure Stock ranks into the weekend with an 18 point advantage over Zack Madrid with Chris McCurdy, Jr., another seven points back in third.

Paul Martin topped the most recent Micro Sprint feature on September 26 to become the eighth different winner of the season at CSP in Micro action.
