All-Tech Raceway Announces Cancellation of the Powell Family Memorial

(Eastaboga, AL - October 4, 2024) — All-Tech Raceway has announced the cancellation of the 29th Annual Powell Family Memorial, originally scheduled for October 17-19, 2024. The decision comes in response to the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, which has impacted local communities and other parts of the Southeast.

Wendell Durrance, promoter of All-Tech Raceway, shared the heartbreak of the decision, calling it one of the hardest he's ever made. "Out of respect for the affected communities and the many lives disrupted by the storm, we feel this is the right course of action," Durrance said. "We've spoken with some of our key supporters, fans, and James Powell, and after careful consideration, we have agreed that it’s not the right time for a festive event like the Powell Family Memorial."

Durrance also explored other possible dates for the event but noted that they didn’t align well with other tracks and series schedules, further complicating the situation.

James Powell, whose family has been closely tied to the Powell Family Memorial, echoed Durrance’s sentiment. "Right now, our community and many others have experienced unimaginable loss," Powell said. "We don’t believe this is the time to hold a celebration when so many are in need. Our focus is on helping those who have lost everything, and we hope everyone understands and supports this decision."

Adam Stewart, representing Crate Racin' USA, offered his full support for the cancellation. "While this is certainly a disappointment for all of us, we know the decision is the right one given the circumstances," Stewart said. "We look forward to returning next year with the 30th Annual Powell Family Memorial."
