Ricky Thornton Jr
Pair of podiums for RTJ at Davenport and Wheatland
Making a quick stop to compete with the XR Super Series on Monday, Ricky Thornton Jr. invaded Dubuque Speedway (Dubuque, Iowa) for the Dubuque Key City Clash.
In a field of 40 cars, Thornton recorded a new track record in time trials before placing first in his heat. Setting the pace early in the feature, Ricky led laps 1-15 before suffering a flat tire. He rallied from 15th to finish fourth in the 50-lap affair.
For the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned contest on Tuesday at Davenport Speedway (Davenport, Iowa), Ricky followed up a heat race win with a third-place run in the main event. He chased Jonathan Davenport and Devin Moran to the checkers in the 40-lapper.
With Friday’s NAPA Know How 50 at Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Ill.) falling to weather early in the event, SSI Motorsports wrapped up the weekend on Saturday with Thornton qualifying for the CMH Diamond Nationals A-Main at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) with an eight-lap heat victory. Reeling in his third consecutive top-five finish, Ricky landed a third-place finish, which came behind Jonathan Davenport and Devin Moran.
Thornton earned $5,000 for leading the latest LOLMDS point standings heading into Summit Racing Equipment Super Twelve.
