RTJ seventh in XR Spring Thaw 100 at Volunteer Speedway
Ricky Thornton took his SSI Motorsports No. 20RT Late Model into battle with the XR Workin’ Man Series on Tuesday afternoon at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) for the tune-up session for the upcoming Spring Thaw 100.
Following the fourth-fastest qualifying effort, Thornton took part in the Dirt Dominator preliminary events before placing second in his heat. With $10,000 on the line in the feature, Ricky gained one spot in the 40-lapper to register a fourth-place finish. He followed Chris Madden, Dale McDowell, and Kyle Bronson across the line with Mike Marlar coming in fifth.
Back in action on Saturday evening after unfavorable weather shortened the XR Super Series doubleheader to a single day, Ricky secured his spot into the $100,000-to-win Spring Thaw 100 with a third-place finish in his heat. Rolling off on the ninth row, Thornton advanced forward 10 spots in the 100-lapper to finish seventh.
