Horton sweeps Southern All Stars field at Blue Ridge

Austin Horton piloted his Orr’s Trucking No. 16 Super K Express/ Horton Flyer/ XR1 Rocket Chassis Super Late Model to the $4,000 triumph with the Southern All Star (SAS) Dirt Racing Series on Sunday night at Sugar Creek Raceway.

“We made the kinda last-minute decision to go to Sugar Creek Raceway on Sunday, and it paid off. We felt like we made some mistakes on Saturday night at Senoia Raceway, and we were looking for redemption, and I guess you could say we found it,” Horton said. “That was my first time to Sugar Creek, and it’s a fun place. I’m glad we made the trip. Thank you to all my sponsors, crew, and fans who continue to support us.”

Austin Horton kicked off his Fourth of July weekend on Saturday afternoon by visiting Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Ga.) to defend his home turf against a field of 30 Ultimate Southeast Series entries.

With time trials setting the grid for the $4,000-to-win A-Main, Horton clocked in second fastest in his group behind Michael Page. Rolling off fourth, Austin gained one spot in the 40-lap finale to register a third-place finish. He trailed Michael Page and Joseph Joiner across the line with Dylan Knowles and Dalton Cook rounding out the Top-5.

On Sunday afternoon at Sugar Creek Raceway (Blue Ridge, Ga.) for the Southern All Star Series-sanctioned Firecracker 40, Austin topped the 15-car field in time trials, which positioned him on the pole for the A-Main.

Completing the evening sweep, Horton led flag-to-flag in the 40-lapper to capture his eighth win of the season and a $4,000 prize. He took the checkers ahead of Kenny Collins and Blake Craft to record his second-career series triumph.
