Pair of Top-5 finishes over Memorial Day weekend

Lifting the lid on his Memorial Day weekend slate, Ashton Winger invaded Thunderhill Raceway (Summertown, Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon for the Southern All Star Series sanctioned program. With time trial results aligning him eighth on the starting grid for the $4,000-to-win A-Main, Winger gained three spots in the 40-lapper to register a fifth-place finish. He trailed Matt Cooper, Payton Freeman, Dane Dacus, and Sam Seawright to the checkers.

On Monday afternoon at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.) for the ninth annual Scott Sexton Memorial, Ashton secured his spot into the $10,052-to-win Spring Nationals finale with a 10-lap heat race victory. Losing one spot in the 53-lap affair, Winger notched a third-place finish behind Jimmy Owens and Randy Weaver. Dale McDowell and Mike Marlar completed the Top-5 finishers. (Michael Moats photo)
