Ashton Winger races to third-place finish at Beaver Dam
Lifting the lid on the third week with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, Ashton Winger trekked to Beaver Dam Raceway (Beaver Dam, Wis.) on Wednesday for the eighth stop of the Hell Tour. With 22 Late Models entered, Winger recorded a third-place finish in his heat, which positioned him eighth on the starting grid for the $5,000-to-win A-Main. Improving five spots in the 40-lap affair, Ashton notched a third-place finish. The following night at Davenport Speedway (Davenport, Iowa) on the quarter-mile oval, Ashton clocked in second fastest in his group before placing second in his heat, trailing Cade Dillard. Losing three spots in the 40-lap feature, Winger recorded a 10th-place outing.
On Friday evening at Dirt Oval Route 66 Raceway (Joliet, Ill.), Winger secured his spot into the $10,000-to-win A-Main with a third-place finish in his heat. Breaking into the Top-10, Ashton charged forward three spots in the 30-lap affair to register a fourth-place finish. He followed Bobby Pierce, Frank Heckenast Jr., and Brian Shirley across the line with Tanner English coming in fifth.
In a field of 35 Late Models on Saturday at Fayette County Speedway (Brownstown, Ill.), Ashton followed up the fourth fastest time in his group with a 10-lap heat race victory. Receiving the second-starting position for the main event, Winger ran up front for the first 20 circuits but faded late in the caution-free 50-lapper to finish seventh. (Brendon Bauman photo)
For the weekend finale on Sunday at Lincoln Speedway (Lincoln, Ill.), Winger place second in his heat race before passing one car in the feature to place sixth.
Ashton remains in fourth in the latest Summer Nationals point standings.
