Two Rounds of Mechanical Woes to Open Golden Isles Nationals

After more than a two-month hiatus due to the ongoing Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, Chris Ferguson traveled to Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.) on Tuesday night for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) Reopening Tour. Drawing 43 cars for the Optima Batteries Golden Isles Nationals, Ferguson laid down the seventh fastest lap in his time trial group before falling one spot shy of a transfer position in his heat with a fifth place finish. Coming in second his B-Main behind Mark Whitener, Chris locked into the 19th-starting position for the opening night feature. With $7,000 on the line, Ferguson suffered a broken fan belt on lap 17 that forced him to retire early. (Heath Lawson photo)

The following night for another $7,000-to-win A-Main, Chris registered the fourth fastest time in his group, but a broken driveshaft early in his heat left him sidelined for the remainder of the evening.

Wrapping up the Golden Isles Nationals on Thursday, Ferguson fell three spots short of a transfer position in his heat with a seventh place finish. Needing a third place finish or better on his B-Main to make the $7,000-to-win finale, Chris logged a fifth place outing.
