Ferguson rallies to Top-5 finish in Intercontinental Classic finale
After officials were forced to postpone the 50th annual World 100 to 2021, Chris Ferguson was one of 48 Late Models invited to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Thursday evening to take part in the Intercontinental Classic. Following the 12th fastest time overall in time trials, Ferguson jumped up one spot in his heat race to place second behind Josh Richards. Starting the $10,000-to-win preliminary feature in seventh, Chris slipped back to a 19th place outing after jumping the cushion while challenging for a Top-5 finish. (Zach Yost photo)
The following night for another $10,000-to-win preliminary feature, Chris laid down the fourth fastest time in qualifying before placing second in his heat behind Josh Richards. Rolling off sixth, Ferguson clawed forward two spots in the 30-lapper to place fourth behind Shannon Babb, Josh Richards, and Jonathan Davenport with Kyle Strickler coming in fifth.
With preliminary results from Thursday and Friday setting the grid for the heat races on Saturday, Ferguson rolled off fourth for his heat. Winning by more than a three-second margin, Chris locked into the pole position for the $50,000-to-win Intercontinental Classic main event. After Kyle Stickler snuck by on the second lap, Ferguson comfortably ran in second before jumping the cushion on a lap-29 restart. Charging from 17th, Chris Ferguson reeled in a fifth place finish behind Jonathan Davenport, Tim McCreadie, Shannon Babb, and Dennis Erb Jr.
