The Northern Division title, to be settled during the first Twin 60-lap race of Saturday's Battle for the SCSCS Championship at Dominion, is a spitting image compared to the overall championship when it comes to the key players.
Luckily for Kevin Kromer, there is a little more breathing room in these points between him and Ron Langdon. With a gap of 65, Langdon will need to turn in a near perfect effort, and that's only if Kromer were to falter.
The drivers behind those two in the standings are mathematically out of the hunt for the title; however, a trio of racers will be jockeying for the remaining positions within the top five, much like they have on track throughout the season. Lauren Butler currently has the advantage, after most recently scoring a pair of third place finishes. Bill Ashton is 127 points behind Butler in fourth.
Jerod Brougher has the most to gain, given that the best 3 out of the first 5 championship series races are counted toward the season total, and he has only accumulated 2 races due to missing Shenandoah in August. He is currently 23 back from Ashton and could excel his way to third with a win or a second place result with enough bonus points, given that Butler does not improve upon her current total.
