Inside Line Promotions – BRISTOL, Tenn. (Oct. 1, 2020) – Mandy Chick drove her way to a fifth-place finish last Saturday during the Pinty’s U.S. Short Track Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway.
It marked the best result of the season for Chick, who has five top 10s in seven JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour events this season.
“We’ve had some up-and-down races recently at Lebanon I-44 Speedway and Lucas Oil Raceway, so our goal for the weekend at Bristol was just to go for the win,” she said. “Winning was our only way to secure a spot to continue on in the championship battle so we needed to go big.”
Chick qualified seventh quickest on Saturday for the 100-lap feature around the fast half-mile track. An inversion started her on the outside of the front row. She encountered a problem with failed or broken hood pin mounts from the speed and air forces on the car at Bristol, which created visibility issues throughout the race. On the final restart, Chick began to run out of fuel, but ultimately she came home with her first top five of the season.
“We had another up-and-down weekend battling with issues like the hood pins and running out of fuel, but we secured a top-five finish,” she said. “I’m disappointed that we’re not in the Chase for the Championship, but I think we’re hungry for that first win and that is our main focus heading into Winchester next weekend. Winchester is a track that fits my driving style being a high-speed, high-banked race track so we’re ready to contend for a win.”
Chick returns to action on Oct. 9 at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Ind., during the final points race of the JEGS/CRA All-Star Tour season. She will enter the event ranked sixth in the championship standings.
