Gemmill, Scruggs, Kenny and Shaw Post Marquee Wins at Longdale Speedway During Top Gun Season Finale
Inside Line Promotions – LONGDALE, Okla. (Oct. 16, 2017) – Four drivers claimed big first-place prizes and Top Gun Series champions were crowned this weekend at the two-day Iron Man Winter Nationals hosted by Longdale Speedway.
Brendon Gemmill, Tyler Scruggs, Brandon Kenny and Hesston Shaw were victorious on Saturday night during the season finale at the 3/8-mile oval, where Tanner Black, Brian Byrd, Mike Roach and Travis Baird garnered championships during the inaugural Top Gun Series season.
Gemmill took home the biggest prize of the weekend as he captured the IMCA modifieds feature victory on Saturday night. The win was worth $3,000 to the Wichita, Kan., driver, who started fourth. Hunter McDonald finished second while Black charged from the eighth starting spot to place third ahead of Chad Melton. Troy Gemmill rounded out the top five.
Melton won Friday night’s feature with Brendon Gemmill finishing second after starting last in the 22-car field. Black placed third with Jessie Hoskins fourth and Milt David fifth.
A race-day decision to adjust Saturday evening’s racing schedule due to threatening weather proved to be the correct call. The modified feature was rescheduled to run earlier in the evening and shortened from 60 to 40 laps. The night’s final race, the pure stock feature, was halted four laps short of its scheduled distance when a downpour hit the track.
Scruggs was the feature winner of the pure stock A Main with eighth-starting Tommy Bohnstedt second. James Phelps rounded out the podium with 12th-starting Lance Sessions fourth and Jeff Flanagan fifth.
Byrd powered from sixth to claim Friday’s pure stock main event. Bailee Clift placed second with Skylar McCall third and Dan Rogers fourth. Sessions was fifth after starting 21st.
Kenny capped the weekend with a sport mod triumph on Saturday when he started the A Main 10th. Mark Smith, Jeffrey Kaup, Roach and Joe Adams finished second through fifth, respectively.
Roach held off Kenny to score Friday’s main event victory. McDonald powered from 14th to third and Adams advanced from 11th to fourth with Kaup placing fifth.
Shaw raced from sixth to win Saturday’s stock car feature. He was chased to the line by Chad Sterling and Landon Maddox with Adams fourth and Baird fifth.
Adams captured Friday’s main event after starting ninth with Maddox powering from seventh to second place. Cole Traugott was third with Scruggs fourth and Baird fifth.

LONGDALE SPEEDWAY –
Longdale Speedway is a semi-banked, 3/8-mile clay oval located in Longdale, Okla. Longdale features a gravel pit area off of the backstretch with a concrete viewing area. The pits also surrounds the track with an electronic scoreboard, television quality lighting, aluminum grandstand seating 2,000 along with a souvenir shop, sno cone hut, concessions and Herb’s Smoke Shack featuring ribs and turkey legs. All of these features making Longdale Speedway the premier dirt track in Northwest Oklahoma.
