Top-10 finish in Mod Wars at Ogilvie Raceway

Taking part in the third annual Mod Wars, Dereck Ramirez trekked to Ogilvie Raceway (Ogilvie, Minn.) on Thursday afternoon to pilot his Boomtest Well Service No. 4R Modified for the tripleheader weekend.

With 45 United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) entries on the grounds, Ramirez topped his time trial group before passing four cars in his heat to finish second. Starting Thursday’s rain-delayed feature on Friday in eighth, Dereck marched forward six spots to register a second-place finish. He chased Jake Timm to the checkers with Tanner Mullens rounding out the podium.

Earning the 13th-starting position for Friday night’s $5,000-to-win prelim via a sixth-place run in his heat, Dereck was an early retiree from the 40-lapper on lap 23.

On Saturday, Ramirez seventh-place finish in his heat race pinned him on the seventh row for the $11,000-to-win Mod Wars finale. Wheeling his way into the top-10, Dereck jumped up five positions in the 50-lap affair to cap off the weekend with an eighth-place finish.

Dereck is currently seventh in the latest USMTS point standings.
