Dereck Ramirez
5th-place finish for Ramirez in USRA Fall Nationals finale
A trip to Vado (N.M) Speedway Park for the Rancho Milagro USRA Fall Nationals was on tap for Dereck Ramirez and his No. 4R Modified team over the weekend. They left New Mexico having grabbed a pair of top-five finishes.
On Friday, 47 USRA Modifieds visited the 3/8-mile Vado track for the first night of competition. Ramirez used a third-place result in his heat to transfer to the 25-lap A-Main, where he started from the 10th position. After running as high as seventh, he recorded a 14th-place finish.
The following night, 45 Modifieds were at the track for another full racing program. Ramirez steered from eighth to second in his heat, putting him on the front row for the weekend’s second 25-lap feature. He led all but the last lap of the race, trailing Jake Timm under the checkered flag by just 0.459 seconds. Jake Gallardo rounded out the podium, with Rodney Sanders and Terry Phillps finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
Ramirez was already locked into the event finale on Sunday as 47 USRA Modified drivers descended on Vado seeking a $20,000 payday. Ramirez rolled off fourth in the 50-lap finale and came home in the fifth position. He chased Cade Dillard, Timm, Tanner Mullens and Gallardo across the start-finish line.
During the 2023 campaign, Ramirez claimed four wins, 20 top-fives and 28 top-10s, along with a fourth-place finish in the Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) National point standings.
