Ramirez posts dual top-5 finishes in Jayhawk Classic
Dereck Ramirez took to Kansas City, Kansas’ Lakeside Speedway on Friday evening for the first night of the 12th annual Jayhawk Classic with the Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS).
The Woodward, Oklahoma, driver ran from seventh to second in his heat race behind the wheel of his S&S Fishing + Rental Inc. No. 4R Modified, positioning him in the eighth starting position for the 35-lap, $5,000-to-win A-Main on the 4/10-mile oval. Ramirez moved forward four positions in the race to come home fourth after running as high as second. Jake O’Neil won the race, followed by Cayden Carter, Rodney Sanders, Ramirez and Tanner Mullens.
In Saturday’s finale, Ramirez won his heat and started seventh for the 40-lap main event paying $10,000 for first. For the second night in a row, Ramirez gained four positions in the feature. This time, he registered a third-place finish behind race winner Tyler Davis and Mullens. Sanders and O’Neil rounded out the fourth and fifth spots behind Ramirez.
This year’s Jayhawk Classic was a two-day affair after rain washed out the scheduled opener on Thursday.
