Ramirez claims pair of USMTS top-10 finishes at Hamilton County Speedway
The Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) calendar shifted to Webster City Iowa’s Hamilton County Speedway this weekend, where Dereck Ramirez came away with fifth- and ninth-place results.
Ramirez kicked off the 13th annual USMTS Spring Classic on Thursday evening with a fourth-place finish in his heat race, necessitating a start in one of the night’s B-Mains. The Woodward, Oklahoma, driver finished third in his Boomtest Well Service No. 4R machine in the "B," putting him 19th on the grid for the 30-lap, $3,000-to-win main event.
Ramirez charged through the field over the race’s 30 circuits on the half-mile oval, ultimately picking up 14 spots to register a fifth-place finish behind Dan Ebert, Rodney Sanders, Jim Chisholm and Alex Williamson.
On Friday, Ramirez came home second in his heat race, automatically transferring him into the night’s 30-lap, $5,000-to-win feature where he started from the eighth spot. On Lap 17 he suffered a flat tire which dropped him all the way to 19th, but Ramirez sliced his way back through the field to take home a ninth-place finish.
Saturday’s $10,000 to win Spring Classic finale fell to rain.
