Action this last Saturday night at 81 Speedway saw two familiar names atop the leaderboard in Alternative Pest Management USRA Modified and Heyglassman.com Stock Car action, and a new winner on the year emerged in the Chunky Poodle rookie Modified division.

In HeyGlassman.com Stock car action, Hutchinson’s Scott Miller quickly went to work from his fifth place starting spot, taking over the race lead on lap 5. Dealing with cautions throughout the race, Miller held off challenges from both Clint Smith and George Ramey to claim his seventh win of the season. Clint Smith, George Ramey, Joey Richmond, and Austin Ramey completed the top five, and heat races wins went to Miller and Smith.

Echoing Miller’s dominant theme, Wichita’s Brendon Gemmill has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the Alternative Pest Management Modified division so far in 2020. Garnering top passing point honors during heat race action, Gemmill utilized the outside pole starting position to drive away from the field collecting his 5th overall win of the year. Bryce Schniepp turned in his best performance of the year, dodging an early race pile up and passing multiple cars through the races midpoint to take the runner up spot. Darren Moses finished third, Treyton Gann impressed finishing fourth, and Daniel Richey collected his first top five of the season. The nights hard charger was Randy Wilson going 23rd to 6th, while heat race wins went to Brian Franz, Gemmill, and Ryan McAninch.

A wild Chunky Poodle Rookie Modified race produced a first-time winner on the season, Wichita’s Bret Davis picking up the win. Davis started third and immediately went to work, taking over the race lead at the completion of lap 1. As Davis began to pull away, Fred Freeman, Jason Denny and Andrew Wallace battled over the two, three, and four spots. A rare miscue by Wallace on lap 7 collected multiple cars, including the 15 of Denny, and changed the running order inside the top 5. Back to green, Davis continued to run the speedway’s top line, while newcomer Curtis Barnes from Lindsborg, KS followed Davis finding his footing around the Park City oval. A late caution came out for the 21J of Jeremy Sigler who stopped against the fencing in turn two, setting up a green-white-checker finish. Barnes was strong on the restart, but it was not enough to overcome the performance from Davis in the 65B. Hard Charger Ryan Quiring finished third, Dillon Moler fourth, and Fred Freeman completed the top 5. Quiring and Sigler won the dual B-features, while Wallace, Jim Roney, Davis, Denny, and Freeman collected heat race wins.

Racing action will return once again next Saturday, September 19th with the Alternative Pest Management USRA Modifieds, Chunky Poodle Rookie Modifieds, AutoTech Service Center Street Stocks and Mini Stocks.
