Robb Sternberg Wins Port City Racecars Bomber Special On Memorial Day Weekend
Rothbury, Michigan (Friday, May 22nd, 2015): The Memorial Day holiday weekend would not be the same if was not kicked off with a night at the race track. That is exactly what happened for the fans that visited the fast 3/8ths (0.375) mile dirt oval located north of Muskegon on U.S. 31 just west of Rothbury. It was scout night where all scouts in uniform were admitted free. There was a full 8 in 1 program on hand with a Four-cylinder Warrior make up feature from May 8th, and the main show headlined by a Bomber special presented by Port City Racecars. Joining them were the UMP DIRTcar Late Models, UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, Michigan Dirt Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Young Guns.
The May 8th Four-Cylinder Make Up Feature began the night. Josh Pulsipher and Mindi Holy lead the field down to the green flag. Dave Redmon who started fourth, was able to find his way up front to take the lead and he would go on to get the win. Chris Gagnon finished just behind in second. Terry Woodard, Katie Whelpley, and Kristina Johnson rounded out the top five.
Ronnie VanNatter was the winner of the 10-lap Young Guns feature. He beat out Gabe Flores who took second. Hedi Barnhard, and Madison who completed the field. VanNatter also won the heat race.
The Bomber Special presented by Port City Racecars was led out by Muskegon’s Randy Whitten and Grand Haven’s Mike DeJonge for the 25-lap main event. When all was said and done it would be Robb Sternberg fighting his way to the front of the field and never looking back from there to take home the checkered flag. The defending track champion Dan Wilson Jr. finished second. Dejonge, Mike Fekken, and Morgan Smith finished off the top five. Sternberg and Wilson were the heat race winners.
The 15-lap UMP DIRTcar Modified feature event made its way out next with Jeff Erickson Jr. and Brad Bates on the front row. Erickson was able to go from start to finish, leading for the entire event to pick up the victory. Steve McClees was the runner up. Brian Kiester, Brad Bates and Kory Maurice capped off the top five. Erickson also won the lone heat race.
Derek Poland and Josh Sternberg led out the 20-lap feature for the Street Stocks. Poland jumped out the advantage early and never looked back from there. He would lead the entire event from start to finish and pick up his fourth win of the season. Sternberg would have to settle for second. Chuck Smith, Robbie Sternberg, and Paul Namey rounded out the top five. Robbie Stenberg won the heat race.
Josh Grabe was the winner of the 12-lap Michigan Dirt Modified feature event. Steve McClees and Brett Strunk finished off the field. The lone heat race was won by McClees.
Randy Woodbury and Brian Hammond led out the final feature of the night which was the 12-lap Warrior A-Main. When the checkered flag finally dropped it was Revenna, Michigan native Buck Spencer getting the win over Chris Gagon,who finished just behind in second. Hammond, Robert Metz III, and Don Fenner completed the top five. The heat races were won by Woodard and Gagon.
This Friday May 29th the Winston Speedway will play host to the inaugural season opener for the American Ethanol Late Model Tour. The all new traveling series will bring some of the best Late Model drivers around to compete in a heated contest for a $2000 to win feature event. The UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, Michigan Dirt Modifieds, Street Stocks, Bombers, Four-Cylinder Warriors, and Young Guns will be in attendance making up another thrilling 7 in 1 show.
