Lupton riding streak of ten straight top-tens
WILTON, CALIFORNIA (September 25, 2013) – 19 year-old NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West rookie Dylan Lupton used a strong third place finish at Miller Motorsports Park last Saturday to propel himself to fifth place in the series standings with a chance at the championship with still four races to go. Lupton has recorded ten consecutive top-ten finishes and will look to get his 11th on Saturday at NAPA Speedway in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Lupton's season in Bob Bruncati's Sunrise Ford #9 has been successful across all tracks, including road courses where Lupton accumulated finishes of fourth, eighth, and third.
The third place finish at Miller Motorsports Park came in Lupton's first appearance at the venue. The one-day only show at the state-of-the-art facility in Tooele, UT saw Lupton practice seventh quick before qualifying was cancelled due to rain.
Owner points set the grid which placed Lupton fifth for the iON Utah Grand Prix. When Lupton made a pit stop for fuel on lap 19, he had worked his way up into third. After running within the top-five all race long, Lupton found himself in third for a green-white-checkered finish.
Lupton charged past former series champion Greg Pursley for the runner-up spot, but Pursley snuck by into turn one on the final lap to take the position back. Lupton drove hard on the final lap to finish third.
"It was a great weekend for the #9 car," Lupton said. "I knew that I could get a good result here at Miller and the crew gave me the car to do so. I'm proud of how hard they have been working and how well we have been doing so far this season in my rookie year."
Following NAPA Speedway this weekend, Lupton will have a pair of races in California in October. The series will visit Roseville's All American Speedway, just 40 minutes northeast of Lupton's hometown in Wilton, on October 12. The series will make its debut on the half-mile Kern County Raceway Park near Bakersfield on October 26, a track that Lupton has raced at several times in NASCAR Late Models.
"I'm really looking forward to the races in Roseville and Kern County in the next few weeks," Lupton said. "I have a lot of laps at both of those tracks and believe we can win both of them, which would be huge for our rookie season!"
