Lupton scores first career West win at Evergreen

WILTON, CALIFORNIA (August 22, 2013) – 19 year-old NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West rookie Dylan Lupton scored the biggest win of his young stockcar career, steering Bob Bruncati's Sunrise Ford #9 entry to victory lane on Saturday night at Evergreen Speedway. The victory in the NAPA Auto Parts 150 extended Lupton's lead in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings and gives Bruncati's squad four total wins this year.

"I knew the team and I were capable of capturing a win this year, so to finally get one takes a little bit of pressure off of my back and gives me confidence to go out and get more wins," Lupton said.

Lupton spent practice acclimating to the narrow, 5/8ths mile Evergreen Speedway near Seattle, WA and reached out to veteran and series champion Greg Pursley for advice on how to navigate the tricky speedway.

The Wilton, CA driver qualified the Vadio / Lupton Excavation Ford ninth out of 19 starters for the 150 lap contest. Lupton was on the charge early on, driving up to fifth place by the lap 75 halfway break.

After making some adjustments during the break, Lupton settled in for a 50 lap green flag run before a caution on lap 139 brought the field together. The caution period ended up setting the stage for Lupton's first win. His teammate and points leader Derek Thorn slid up the race track into turn one, allowing Lupton to sneak past for the lead while the caution came out for the incident.

That caution flag forced a green-white-checkered finish, where ironically Lupton was pitted against Pursley in a shootout for the coveted win. Lupton was able to come through the gears smoothly at the drop of the green flag and he pulled away to a two car length advantage that he rode to the finish of the overtime race.

Lupton's win gave him his third top-five and eighth top-ten in the nine races held this season on the busy campaign, placing him fifth in the hotly contested championship standings.

"I am so proud to be a part of the Sunrise Ford crew," Lupton said. "The #9 team has been working extremely hard so they truly deserve this win and I am happy to be the driver to capture the win for them. I am looking forward to the next couple of races and battling for another win."

Lupton will continue his Northwest Swing this Saturday night with a race on the high-banked half-mile Spokane County Raceway in Spokane, WA. 150 laps of action are scheduled for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West competitors in their tenth event this year.
