Sanders posts top-10 results at Lucas Oil Speedway and Mason City Motor Speedway

A busy first weekend of August for Rodney Sanders and his Paulson Rock Products and Stussey Construction No. 20 Modified team led to three consecutive top-10 finishes.

First up, Sanders took on a pair of $5,000-to-win Summit USMTS National Championship events at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday.

The Friday opener of the 15th annual Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout brought 41 USMTS Modifieds to the 3/8-mile Wheatland track. Sanders claimed a third-place finish in his heat race and started 11th in the 40-lap feature. He briefly ran inside the top five in the race before ultimately turning in a sixth-place result.

On Saturday, 40 USMTS Modified teams were at the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” for the Show-Me Shootout finale. Sanders could only muster an eighth-place run in his heat, putting him in one of two B-Mains. He grabbed the fifth and final transfer spot into the night’s 50-lap main event, but started deep in the field. Still, he mounted an impressive charge and finished 10th, picking up 12 positions.

Sanders, the five-time and defending USMTS champion, is third in the series standings after the Lucas Oil Speedway races.

On Sunday, Sanders closed out his weekend with a trip to the 1/3-mile Mason City (Iowa) Motor Speedway, where he was part of an 11-car USRA Modified field. A $2,000 first-place prize was on offer in the RacinDirt.com Thunder Summer Series event.

Sanders was runner-up in his heat and rolled off from the third starting position in the 20-lap A-Main. He earned a fourth-place result, finishing behind Jim Chisholm, Joe Chisholm and Kyle Strickler. Kevin Stoa completed the top five.
