Sanders takes 2nd in Vado Fall Nationals
Rodney Sanders traveled to the Land of Enchantment over the weekend to participate in the 24th annual Fall Nationals at Vado (New Mexico) Speedway Park. He turned in a pair of stout performances in a strong 44-car USRA Modified field and contended for the event win.
In Friday’s preliminary action at the 3/8-mile oval, Sanders drove his Dalbeck Sales No. 20 machine from fourth to first in his heat race, starting him second in the 25-lap feature. He led the first five circuits and came home as runner-up after taking the checkered flag 2.382 seconds behind winner Cade Dillard. Jake Gallardo, Carlos Ahumada Jr. and Jake Timm completed the top five.
Sanders’ Friday effort put him third in the starting lineup for Sunday’s $20,000-to-win finale. He picked up one spot in the 50-lapper and turned in his second runner-up result of the weekend. He chased Dillard at the line once again, this time trailing him by 1.512 seconds. Gallardo took third, while Timm and Terry Phillips finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
