WILLIAMSTON, N.C. – Though Darren Pifer was named The Dirt Network’s “Spirit Award” winner last month, the terms of the selection are less than ideal. Nonetheless, the determination and heart that Pifer and his family have shown in the months after his terrifying encounter with a fire in the cockpit of his 305 RaceSaver sprint car are heroic. Rather than turn away from motorsports, in which he’s competed in nearly all his life, he came back in a matter of weeks.
Unluckily, he bad luck persisted throughout the last few races of the season after his comeback, and his 2014 season is finished. However, before Pifer gets back on track in the sprint car for his second season in 2015, he’ll heading to Williamston, North Carolina’s Senator Bob Martin Eastern Agricultural Center for the 7th Annual Indoor Dirt Karting Championships on January 9-10, 2015.
This year marks the third time that the Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania native will be in action at the event, which features a class paying $3000 to win, and two more classes paying $1000 to win. Pifer plans to race in one of the $1000 classes, the flathead pro heavy class. In addition, he’ll compete in the flathead super heavy and animal heavy classes that offer $500 to the winner of each class, as well as the animal super heavy division that will pay $300 to the feature winner.
Pifer would like to thank Jeane Pifer Photography, Betram Motorsports, Simpson Race Products, Hinchman Indy, and ButlerBuilt, as well as his family and fans for their continued support.
