Inside Line Promotions – OHSWEKEN, Ontario, Canada (July 26, 2019) – Alex Hill recorded a pair of solid outings with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Big Sky Speedway last weekend, but it was followed by some bad luck at her home track during a busy four nights of racing.
Hill began the four-race stretch with the ASCS doubleheader on Friday and Saturday at the oval in Billings, Mont.
“We did pretty well in Billings, although we could have done a little better,” she said. “We fell back in the features a bit. The track was pretty slick for the features both nights. I just need to get better on those types of tracks.”
Hill charged from fifth to second in her heat race on Friday before starting fourth and finishing a season-best ninth in the A Main. She won her heat on Saturday and then finished 11th in the feature after starting sixth.
“It was a little disappointing to drop back in the features a bit,” she said. “The track was really slick for the features on both nights. I just need to get better on those types of tracks.”
Hill returned home to compete against a large field at Ohsweken Speedway, which hosted the Summer Nationals on Monday and Tuesday.
It began well on Monday with a charge from 10th to second in her heat race. She lined up fourth in the night’s main event.
“The car ran great the first lap and then the nose wing collapsed,” she said. “We think it was from a chunk of mud. So we raced the rest of the way basically without a nose wing. The car pushed real bad and we fell back and ended up 18th.”
The bad luck for Hill continued the following night.
“A guy in front of me in my heat race got sideways,” she said. “I had nowhere to go and hit him. It damaged the nose wing and I had to go to the work area to have it removed. After the restart, I was able to move from the back to finish fourth without the nose wing, but it was one spot short of transferring to the A Main.”
Hill started second in her B Main when more misfortune struck.
“I cut a tire in the B Main,” she said. “I got that changed and started at the back, but I was only able to make it back to fifth by the finish.”
Hill will move on to compete at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this Saturday.
“We’re looking forward to getting some laps in before the 360 Nationals,” she said. “I always enjoy racing at Knoxville and I’m looking forward to staying there through the 410 Nationals.”
