Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (June 24, 2019) – Alex Hill produced a positive weekend during her second career outing at the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup hosted by Skagit Speedway.

“I was really happy with our weekend,” she said. “We had a fast car every night. There were a lot of cars with good drivers and we made the A Main on two of the nights, including the main event on Saturday. Last year we didn’t make any of the A Mains so it was a big improvement for us.”

Hill began the three-day Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event on Thursday with a solid heat race run followed by a win in her qualifier.

“We finished third in our heat and that put us on the pole for our qualifier,” she said. “We were able to get the lead at the start and held it the rest of the race without anyone challenging us. Our car was fast and it felt good to get a win.”

Hill lined up seventh for the A Main.

“We watched the B Main and the fastest line in that race seemed to be around the top,” she said. “So I ran the first few laps of the A Main around the top, but I got passed by some cars before I moved to the bottom. The track took rubber early – about five laps in – and it was pretty much follow the leader after that and I finished 13th.”

A poor draw helped to stifle Hill’s performance on Friday night.

“I started seventh in a heat race that had a lot of good cars,” she said. “I was able to pass one car, but we ended up having to run a B Main. I started eighth and was able to get to fifth on one of the starts, but they called it back. I eventually passed one car and finished seventh. The track wasn’t very racy that night and it was tough to pass all night long.”

Hill’s two-night point total fell just short of locking her into Saturday night’s A Main and placed her on the pole during one of Saturday night’s B Mains.

“Justin Sanders got me at the start for the lead, but we ran strong after that,” she said. “We were fast and nobody challenged us for second the rest of the race.”

Hill started 20th in the event’s main race.

“We started too far back to be able to do much,” she said. “I eventually pulled in with about 10 laps to go to save our car. Plus, I didn’t want to ruin someone’s night racing for $15,000.”

Hill will stay on the West Coast this week to compete in the Fred Brownfield Classic at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., on Friday and Saturday.
