GREENVILLE, Texas – In kicking off his 2016 racing campaign, Gunner Ramey was just one position away from how he began and ended last season. Though not a win like in those situations, a second-place finish was a strong showing to start the year.
Making his first appearance at Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, Ramey was set to compete against 11 others on the quarter-mile oval. In heat race action, the Sedalia, Mo. native started heat two in second, but failed to advance any further than that.
The main event began with the Pace/Honda No. 28 outside of row two. At the start of the race, it was soon apparent that the gear ratio was off on Ramey’s machine, but the young driver pushed on. Even with the incorrect gear, he was able to overtake two opponents. The leader had quickly pulled away from the field on the start, and Ramey was left to finish in the runner-up spot.
Ramey would like to thank Impact Signs Awnings & Wraps, Sure Coat Powdercoating, Rob Sneed Shorthorns, McKinney Construction, Ramey Dirtworks, Southwest Storage, 8760 Service Group, Rod End Supply, Factory Kahne Midwest, MYCHRONTOM, and Quick Engineering, as well as his family, friends, and fans for their continued support.
