TULSA, Okla. – In racing, everything can turn bad in an instant. After an excellent preliminary effort from Gunner Ramey at the Tulsa Shootout, his main event appearance was brief, being caught in an early incident that brought his weekend to a close.

The week’s racing began for Ramey on Wednesday night, December 30. 13 heat races were set to take place in the restricted division; Ramey began heat 10 from inside row two but was unable to move forward and finished third, as the racing groove was still quite narrow.

It was in qualifier action on Thursday where Ramey would shine brightest. Just 48 of the 104 entries earned positions in these races, with the remaining 56 relegated to B-Mains. Ramey barely snuck into a qualifier, 44th in points after heat races. In just ten laps, he directed his No. 28 Pace Chassis toward the front in spectacular fashion, netting a fourth-place finish.

The massive point gain in the qualifier was more than enough to jump Ramey into the top 16 that would automatically transfer to Saturday’s restricted A-Main, 11th overall and thus starting inside row six. For nearly 48 hours, Ramey and his team eagerly awaited their first Tulsa Shootout main event start. Unfortunately, the outing, his last in the restricted division as he’ll move on to A-Class and nonwing racing later in 2016, came to a quick end. On the opening lap, several cars tangled, collecting Ramey. His machine sustained too much damage to continue. The failure to finish was the first for Ramey since 2014, as he ran the table in 2015 with zero DNFs in 31 races.

Ramey Racing now has the next two months to prepare for the upcoming 2016 season, which they plan to begin in March.

Ramey would like to thank Impact Signs Awnings & Wraps, Sure Coat Powdercoating, Rob Sneed Shorthorns, McKinney Construction, Ramey Dirtworks, Southwest Storage, 8760 Service Group, Rod End Supply, Factory Kahne Midwest, MYCHRONTOM, and Quick Engineering, as well as his family and the Renfro, Houston, and Cornell families for their continued support.
