Third-place finish in World Finals prelim at The Dirt Track at Charlotte
Brandon Overton took the Wells Motorsports No. 76 Longhorn Chassis Late Model into battle at The Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, N.C.) over the weekend as a pair qualifying sessions on Wednesday kicked off the four-day event.
With the 74-car World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series sanctioned field divided into two groups for time trials, Overton claimed the overall fast time honors in the first round before going 10th-quickest in his second qualifying round.
Starting on the pole of his heat on Thursday, Brandon followed up an eight-lap victory with a third-place showing in the 35-lap preliminary feature. He followed Mike Marlar and Chris Madden across the line with Hudson O’Neal and Dale McDowell rounding out the top-five.
For another preliminary night on Friday, Overton squeezed into the feature with a third-place finish in his heat before finishing 18th in the 35-lapper.
On Saturday, Brandon’s second-place showing in his heat positioned him on the fourth row for the $25,000-to-win World Finals finale. He was an early retiree on lap 33 while running 11th.
