Overton races to runner-up finish in Buckeye Spring 50, pair of podiums at Ponderosa & Florence
Wells Motorsports and pilot Brandon Overton visited Atomic Speedway (Chillicothe, Ohio) on Thursday evening as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) returned to action after a rain-plagued month of March and April.
Drawing 42 competitors for the ninth annual Buckeye Spring 50, Overton timed in second-fastest in his group prior to placing first in his heat. Earning the fourth-starting position for the $12,000-to-win A-Main, Brandon gained two spots in the 50-lap affair to finish second. He nearly stole the lead from Hudson O’Neal in the closing circuits but went onto cross the line 0.303 seconds behind O'Neal with Mike Marlar rounding out the podium.
For the John Bradshaw Memorial at Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Ky.) on Friday, Brandon outran Ricky Thornton JR. in his heat to pick up the eight-lap victory. With $12,000 on the line in the feature, Overton dropped one spot on a track that saw limited passing to finish third.
To wrap up the weekend, Overton stopped at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) on Saturday for the $15,000-to-win Ralph Latham Memorial. With a runner-up finish in his heat race placing him on the third row for the finale, Brandon gained two positions in the 50-lap affair to finish third. He chased Ricky Thornton Jr. and Hudson O’Neal to the checkers.
Brandon remains third in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
