Brandon Overton
Runner-up finish in Dirt Track World Championship
After Mother Nature shifted Friday’s preliminary events, Brandon Overton was one of 60 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries on hand at Portsmouth Raceway Park (Portsmouth, Ohio) on Saturday afternoon for the 41st annual General Tire Dirt Track World Championship. Following the fourth-fastest time in his qualifying group, Brandon scored a second-place finish in his heat race.
Earning the eighth-starting position for the $100,000-to-win Dirt Track World Championship, Overton disposed of Ricky Thornton Jr. for second on lap 26 and overtook Devin Moran for the lead 10 circuits later. Unable to hold off Thornton Jr. late in the 100-lapper, Brandon notched a second-place finish when the checkered flag flew. He trailed Thornton Jr. to the checkers with Jonathan Davenport, Mike Marlar, and Tim McCreadie rounding out the Top-5.
