ARCA Truck Series Returns to Angola Motorsport Speedway
Millersport, OH – This Saturday the ARCA Truck Series makes their final stop in Indiana for 2015, racing at the 3/8 mile Angola Motorsport Speedway.
It will be the third visit to Angola for the series, the second in 2015. The inaugural event coming 2012.
Brandon Huff dominated the event at Angola earlier this season, leading 74 of the 100 laps in the event. Huff held off Cody Quarrick and Shawn Szep that evening to capture his first career win.
In two previous events at Angola, only five drivers have started both events. Three of those drivers have the same average finish of fourth place. Those drivers are Brandon Huff, Cody Quarrick, and Shawn Szep. Only Huff has a victory at Angola.
After many great runs this season that ended without a win Brandon Huff finally captured his first at Angola in July. Huff returns to Angola after a second place finish at Jennerstown earlier this month and with hopes of another win and sweeping Angola.
Getting another win would be a great boost for Huff’s championship run. Huff sits in a tie for third with Shawn Szep and is 101 points back from Quarrick. With three events left in 2015, he needs all the points he can get if he hopes to hoist the championship trophy at Lake County Speedway.
Shawn Szep is another veteran looking for the championship. He has two wins this season that have helped him stay in the hunt, but he needs to finish the season strong if he wants to win the championship. Szep has two top-fives at Angola, with his best finish coming in July of this season, where he finished third.
It has been an up and down season for 2014 Holley Performance Rookie of the Year Jeff Myers Jr.
Myers has the most wins, second most poles, led the second most laps, but is second in the points standings. The wins and poles have helped keep his deficit to Cody Quarrick in the series standings to only 38 points. It is a lead that Myers could erase in the next three events to become the series champion. However, he has to have a good run at Angola to help keep it from being a longshot.
Atop the ARCA Truck Series points standings is Cody Quarrick. He nabbed his first win of the season last week after a great fight for the win with Jeff Myers Jr. After a season of runner up finishes and close races for the win, Quarrick was excited to finally win one. That win helped his points lead over Jeff Myers Jr. and gave him some space. Barring any disasters, Quarrick just needs solid top five finishes the remainder of the season and he could very well be the 2015 ARCA Truck Series Champion.
Joining the pervious listed drivers in making their third start this Saturday is veteran driver Brad Yunker. In both his previous starts Yunker has placed eleventh. A lap one accident in the July event earlier this season kept Brad from having a finish at Angola. He hopes to erase both those previous events with a solid finish this Saturday.
Other drivers to watch are Billy Strehle who took fourth at the July event earlier this season. Strehle has had some good runs throughout the season and is capable of grabbing a win at nearly any track the series makes a visit to. Holley Performance Rookie of the Year candidate Brian Brewer led 14 laps in the July event before overheating forced an early exit. If he can come back with the same speed he had earlier this season, he will be one to keep an eye on as well.
In the Holley Performance Rookie of the Year race, Katlynn Leer has a firm grip on the lead over the rest of the rookie field. Brian Brewer sits in second by 6 points and has a mountain to climb if he wants to win. Last weekend was only the second race this season that Katlynn did not win the Rookie of the Race award. The last time that happened was in May at Toledo, where she finished behind Tim Mennecke. All she has to do to win is finish ahead of Brewer this weekend and it is sealed. However, if Brewer is able to finish ahead of her and Wollerman this weekend and the remainder of the season, the points would be tied at season’s end. It is something to watch as the season winds down.
