Inside Line Promotions – HEATH, Texas (Nov. 8, 2018) – Travis Rilat produced a top-10 finish in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com championship standings for the 10th time in his career in 2018.
This year marked the first time since 2009 that Rilat tackled the tour full time. Although he missed multiple races because of work commitments, Rilat still ended ninth in the standings while piloting the No. 1 sprint car for BDS Motorsports.
“I want to thank Bryan Sundby and everyone with BDS Motorsports,” he said. “They worked hard to provide a fast race car. We had a shot at winning a couple of races this year, but the circumstances didn’t play out in our favor.”
Rilat finished the year with eight top fives – six during ASCS National Tour competition – and 20 top 10s. It’s his most top 10s in a single season since 2015 when he also scored 20.
Rilat’s best result of the season was a runner-up finish during a preliminary night at the 47th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup hosted by Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash. He also netted podium finishes at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, and at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas, during the ASCS National Tour Speedweek.
“We had a fast car and had some really good nights, but this year didn’t meet our expectations,” he said. “We’re working hard on next year and plan on running a pick-and-choose schedule. Our goal is to build on the positives of this year and earn our way to Victory Lane multiple times next season.
“Also, a huge thanks to all of our sponsors and fans. We appreciate the support and look forward to many great things in the future.”

“It’s kind of funny how I met (Shark owner) Marc Huson when I went up there to Washington for an ASCS National Tour race a few years ago,” Rilat said. “I was wandering around talking on my cell phone and saw a sprint car next door. I walked over, looked around and introduced myself.
“He’s been a great friend. He was instrumental with a support group for me and my family when I was in the hospital up there. He and his wife helped us out in a hard time. As far as his engine skills go, he’s one of the best in the country. There’s only a handful of great engine builders across the country and I consider him one of the best.”
