Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (July 6, 2016) – Travis Rilat enjoyed his trip to Washington last weekend despite frustrating finishes both nights during the Fred Brownfield Classic.

“I had a good time,” he said. “There was nice weather and great people. We just didn’t have the results we wanted.”

The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader at Grays Harbor Raceway began on Friday with Rilat, who was driving for Richard Saumure, advancing from third to second place in a heat race. That ranked Rilat 13th in overall points and lined him up on the inside of the seventh row for the main event.

“The first night we were decent early in the feature,” he said. “We were passing cars. We didn’t get the car tight enough and we started going backwards. I was moving around the track trying to find a place it would work, but it got pretty hard to drive so I just pulled in to avoid a wreck.”

Rilat, who challenged for a top 10 early in the night, was credited with a 21st-place finish.

Saturday’s program began with Rilat maneuvering from ninth to sixth place in a heat race. He then powered from fifth to win a B Main, which earned a transfer into the 18th starting position for the main event.

“We moved up several spots,” he said. “We weren’t two or three laps into it and a car lost it in turns three and four. We were on the high side and got collected into him. That spun me around and I got collected by someone else. It tore up the wing and a wheel. I think we were going to have a really good car.”

Rilat, who had advanced from 18th to 13th place on the opening lap, was unable to resume the race and was scored 21st.

He will take this weekend off before returning to action with Saumure on July 15-16 at Billings Motorsports Park in Billings, Mont., for the opening weekend of the NSA Shootout.

“It’s kind of funny how I met (Shark owner) Marc Huson when I went up there to Washington for an ASCS National Tour race,” Rilat said. “I was wandering around talking on my cell phone and saw a sprint car next door. I walked over, looked around and introduced myself.

“He’s been a great friend. He was instrumental with a support group for me and my family when I was in the hospital up there. He and his wife helped us out in a hard time. As far as his engine skills go, he’s one of the best in the country. There’s only a handful of great engine builders across the country and I consider him one of the best.”
