Inside Line Promotions – EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada (Aug. 31, 2016) – Travis Rilat picked up a pair of podium finishes last weekend in Canada.
Rilat and car owner Richard Saumure posted third-place results during both NSA Shootout races at Castrol Raceway, which gives the duo three podiums during three races in the six-race, three-weekend NSA Shootout.
The action began on Friday with Rilat qualifying seventh quickest before he maneuvered from fourth to win a heat race. That earned him a spot in the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 1 to start the main event on the pole.
“We led the first few laps before Kelly Miller got by us on the bottom of the track,” he said. “I chased him the rest of the race until Trey Starks got by us in the final laps so we ended up third. You always hate to not win a race when you start on the front row, but there were some definite positives about the night.”
Rilat opened the weekend finale on Saturday by timing in 10th quickest. He then rallied from third to win a heat race to again make the feature redraw. This time he pulled the No. 3 to start third.
“We actually got caught up in an incident that spun us around early in the race so we had to restart at the back,” he said. “We had a good enough car to work through the field and still come away with a podium. I think we had a car capable of winning if we would have been able to stay up front the whole race.”
Rilat overcame the early problem as he maneuvered through the field to score a third-place finish for the second straight night.
He and Saumure are slated to race this Friday and Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., and Monday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series and Sunday at Grays Harbor Raceway with the Summer Thunder Sprint Series.
