Inside Line Promotions – ENUMCLAW, Wash. (Dec. 28, 2015) – Henry Van Dam put together his best week of 410ci winged sprint car competition during the inaugural Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown last January.
Van Dam is set to return to Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Ariz., this Friday for a $12,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start feature that kicks off five races in nine days at the 3/8-mile oval in the desert.
“It’s huge for us because we’re competing against guys who are racing three or four times a week with the same equipment,” he said. “For us to get in the flow of things it helps you get a different perspective on what you need to do.”
Van Dam scored four top-10 finishes during the 2015 edition, including a pair of sixth-place results.
“We were able to log a lot of good laps down there,” he said. “The track seems to fit us and our engine combo pretty well. It was a place we could capitalize on our opportunities. There’s a lot to look forward to this year.”
Momentum is also on Van Dam’s side as he captured five wins and the track championship at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., last season.
“We definitely have a little bit higher goals for Winter Heat,” he said. “Last year it’s a see what happens type of attitude. This year we have a shot at things. We worked on some things at the end of last year so we think we got further on our car. I’m looking forward to seeing how it works out at Winter Heat.”
Van Dam will also race at Cocopah Speedway on Saturday, Jan. 5 and Jan. 8-9 for the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown.
