BRANDON, S.D. (AP) _ A sprint car went out of control during a race and flipped over a wall at Huset Speedway, killing two men, authorities said.
The victims were the driver of the car, Bill Rook, 32, and Dennis Grave, 39, a track employee, both of nearby Sioux Falls, officials said. Another track employee was in fair condition today at a Sioux Falls hospital.
Rook had just rounded a curve when he apparently hit a wall, said track announcer Denny Oviatt. Cars coming through the back straightaway usually are going faster than 90 mph, he said.
Witness Mark Johnson said Rook’s car did not hit any other car and flipped two or three times before it crashed.
