Madsen Records Pair of Dodge City Top-5’s Including Second Place Run on Saturday
PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting back to the Midwest after a couple of weeks out West, Ian Madsen and the KCP Racing team had a great weekend at Dodge City Raceway Park that saw the team finish fourth on Friday night before a second place run on Saturday.
“It was a great weekend for our race team,” Ian Madsen said. “We had speed out West, just not much luck on our side and we were able to carry that speed over to this weekend a record a pair of Top-5 finishes.”
Friday night at Dodge City Raceway Park, Madsen kicked the night off by timing the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 entry in second fastest in time trials before picking up a heat race win.
Moving into the Dash, Madsen would continue to have horrendous luck in the draw as the six pill put him in the last row of the event for the 11th time in the last 12 visits to the Dash. Able to pick up a couple of positions, Madsen would finish fourth and start the feature event from the second row.
On the slick surface, Madsen would go to work on the top side of the speedway like much of the field did as the bottom groove went away quickly. Battling with Kraig Kinser and Logan Schuchart, Madsen would keep his mount solidly in the Top-5 as he took the checkered flag in the fourth position.
Back in action on Saturday night, Madsen mirrored the start of his night from Friday as he timed in second fastest and again won his heat race. Moving into the Dash draw, Madsen would finally break his back row streak as the two pill placed him on the front row alongside Brad Sweet.
On an extremely windy day, Madsen would hang on to finish second in the Dash and start the feature on the front row as everyone battled some tricky conditions.
With clean air playing a big role on this night, Madsen would find himself in second and chasing after Brad Sweet for all 31 laps that were ran on this night. Getting close to Sweet in traffic on a few occasions, the same cars that slowed Sweet and allowed Madsen to close the gap would also hinder Madsen and allow Sweet to open the gap back up.
A final green-white-checkered restart gave the St. Marys, NSW driver one more shot at Sweet, but the leader was too good in clean air on this night and pulled away as Madsen closed his night with a second place finish.
“Happy to get up on the podium for my guys,” Madsen said. “We have a lot of speed and hopefully we can get this car back in victory lane a time or two before the season ends.
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, P1 Race Wear, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
