Madsen 15th at Knoxville Nationals

PETERSEN MEDIA- Being based in the Des Moines, IA area, the Knoxville Nationals week gets a little more grueling for Ian Madsen and KCP Racing. Keeping up a full slate of appearances to go along with the race itself, Madsen locked into the Saturday night feature out of his qualifying night, and finished 15th in the 50-lap finale.

“It is definitely disappointing to finish where we did,” Ian Madsen said. “It’s great to lock in and make the show, but Knoxville is a place were our team has had so much success and it’s a little disappointing. Great to see so many sponsors, fans, and friends all week for sure, but I am already looking forward to next year’s event.”

Earning quick time honors during Wednesday night’s qualifying night, Madsen would be one of the many top qualifiers to not make it out of heat race action.

Forced into the semi, Madsen would not be denied as he would work into the third position and transfer into the preliminary nigh feature event as he looked to garner more points towards Saturday’s line up.

From the race’s last row, Madsen would get all that he could on a fast racing surface. Working his way forward, the St. Marys, NSW pilot would finish 16th aboard the Logan Contractors Supply/Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed entry.

Sitting sixth in points after one night, Madsen turned into a fan during Thursday’s program and when that race was complete Madsen found himself locked into Saturday’s ‘A’ as he was 14th in overall event points.

Waiting another day to get back to racing, Saturday night finally brought on Championship night at the Nationals, and Madsen was ready to make a run at the home track of KCP Racing.

The feature event didn’t go how Madsen had hoped. From his seventh row starting position, Madsen spent much of the night looking for a spot inside the Top-10 as he pounded the Knoxville Raceway cushion.

Getting into the wall late in the race, Madsen would forced to hang on to his KCP Racing entry as the handling would be altered from the contact.

Doing all he could, the 2018 World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year would cross the finish line with a 15th place finish.

“The Nationals is so tough, but you always strive to run well at it,” Madsen said. “This team works extremely hard night in and night out, and Saturday was just a bit frustrating for everyone. Thanks to all the partners and people who made it out, we will go to work and look to get back on track this weekend in North Dakota.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, P1 Race Wear, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
