Ian Madsen and KCP Racing Earn Hard Charger Honors at Knoxville Raceway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting back to their home track over the weekend, Ian Madsen and KCP Racing didn’t quite have the weekend they were hoping for, but still felt positive after moving forward in a big way during both feature events.

“We had good car speed both nights,” Ian Madsen said. “Friday night a little bad luck in our heat set us back, and on Saturday night the driver made a couple of bad decisions in time trials and that set us back. Luckily, the guys hung in there, gave me a good car and we went forward.”

Friday night opened the weekend up for the KCP Racing team and Madsen kicked the weekend off by timing in eight quickest in his time trial group.

Battling for third during heat race action, debris got into the engine compartment and knocked an oil line loose, forcing Madsen to pull back to his trailer.

Playing it cautious, the KCP Racing team opted to change engines prior to the ‘B’, and they would make the change in time to get the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring machine onto the speedway.

Getting the final transfer out of the semi, Madsen would take the green flag from the 24th starting position in the 25-lap feature event. From the back of the pack, Madsen was able to work his way forward and pick up positions despite running through dirt air.

When the checkered flag was presented to the field, the St. Marys, NSW driver capped the night with a 15th place finish.

Following an all too common rain shower in Knoxville, IA on Saturday night that delayed the start of the program, Madsen would admit he ran a poor line in time trials as he would wind up timing in 14th fastest in his flight.

On a narrow surface due to the weather conditions in both his heat race and semi, Madsen would be forced to utilize a provisional to get into the 25 lap feature event.

Gridding the field from the 25th starting position, Madsen would make the most of burning his provisional. With a strong car underneath him, the track would become racy in the main, and it allowed Madsen to put on a show.

Working his way up to 11th, Madsen would close his weekend out with KSE Hard Charger honors.

“I messed up in time trials, and couldn’t really dig us out of the hole with the track staying narrow after all the rain,” Madsen added. “The track was really racy in the feature, my guys gave me a great car and I had a blast coming through the field like we did.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, P1 Race Wear, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
