Madsen Closes California Swing with a Pair of 14th Place Finishes

PETERSEN MEDIA- With Mother Nature playing nice for the final weekend of action in California, Ian Madsen and KCP Racing ended the month long trip in the Golden State with a pair of 14th place finishes.

“We had a couple of good weekends out in California, and we were really hoping to end the trip on a high note, but that wasn’t the case,” Ian Madsen said. “You’ll have weekends like this, but the important thing is to learn from them and improve.”

Getting off to a good start on Friday night in Hanford, CA, Madsen would time the Logan Contractors Supply/Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 machine in 5th fastest amongst the 32 cars that checked into the pit area.

With slick conditions in time trials, track officials would do some track prep prior to heat races, and Madsen would fine some grease and spin of the racing surface. Finishing sixth in the heat after the early spin, Madsen would be forced into the Last Chance Showdown where a fourth place finish propelled him into the feature event.

On a racy surface, Madsen would find some grip on the bottom on the speedway and slowly work his way forward. Showing a ton of patience, the 2018 series Rookie of the Year, would gain 10 positions and cap his night with a 14th place finish.

Traveling south for Saturday’s California finale at the Perris Auto Speedway, Madsen and company would get off to a bit of a slow start as they ended up timing in 21st in time trials.

Going from seventh to sixth in heat race action, the St Marys, NSW pilot would move into the feature event where eh would again have his work cut out for himself as he took the green flag from the 18th starting position.

On the slick surface, Madsen would pick up a few positions in the opening laps just before the track would take rubber. Getting into 14th, passing would start to cease as the field got in line and clicked off laps.

When the race finally concluded, Madsen would garner his second 14th place finish of the weekend.

“Friday we had a good start to the night, I just got into some grease and made it a long night for the team,’ Madsen noted. “Saturday we aren’t really sure what went wrong in time trials, but it put us in an early hole and with the track taking rubber we couldn’t do too much in the ‘A’. Still, a pretty good trip for us, and we have to send a big thanks to all of our partners for making it possible.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, P1 Race Wear, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
