Hodges Motorsports Update - Canyon Raceway
After one of the most odd weekends we have experienced, we finally got in a somewhat "normal" race in tonight. This time around, though, the tops were off, as the non-wing ASCS Canyon series took on the rough and rowdy Canyon Raceway in Peoria, AZ. I drew pill number 4 to start the night, and that was good to start pole of the second heat. It was tough to get used to the non-wing feel again without the big parachute over your head, and it showed, as I fell back to fourth or fifth in the heat before getting in rythm and moving back up to third. Unfortunately, that was 1 spot out of the A feautre, so I had to start on the pole of two B mains. The track went from heavy to slick up top, while the bottom to middle stayed pretty good. The top 3 transfer positions swapped spots all race, including me, and I ended up 2nd. Now it was time for the main, and the track was very similar to the B feature. I started 17th, and there were quite a few yellows in the beginning of the race, but we got one good run in where I moved up to 7th. We caught caution fever once again with around 5 to 7 laps to go, where the track made a huge change during a long period under the yellow flag conditions. After that, the car felt totally different to me, and I got really loose for the remainder of the race, falling back to 12th. I felt that it was a pretty good showing, being the first time I had been in a non-wing car in awhile, and it seemed as though we could've ran with the leaders most of the race. Now we will head back home to sort out what were are going to do about our trailer, and prep ourselves for the ASCS National Tour, making their way to Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, NM in a couple weeks. After that, it will be the Kronik Energy Drink Western World Championships, and the season finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
